Our Industry works closely with a variety of state and federal agencies as well as state and national tourism associations. These organizations are very familiar with the whitewater industry and are available as valuable media resources.

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (DNR) The Whitewater Commission - The Whitewater Commission governs the West Virginia Commercial Whitewater Industry. The commission consists of a cross section of industry stakeholders and private resource users. The Director of the DNR directs the commission.

The National Park Service (NPS) The majority of river activities take place within the boundaries of the New River Gorge National River and the Gauley River National Recreation Area operated and regulated by the NPS. Our partnership focuses on river conservation and recreation opportunity enhancement.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) The USACE manages two important flood mitigation systems on the New and Gauley Rivers. The Summersville Lake Dam, completed in 1966, serves as the headwaters for the Gauley River during the annual fall draw down. of lake waters. The Bluestone Dam completed in 1952, spans the New River at Hinton, WV. Both dams play an important role in facilitating the recreational uses of both rivers for private and commercial purposes.
